Chinese Lovers in Lagos Exchange Blows in Court While Standing Trial for Arson


It was drama in court yesterday as two Chinese lovers stunned the audience by exchanging blows in the courtroom. Zhen Zhen, female (47) and Leo Jian Feng, male (41) exchanged blows upon seeing  each other after they were arrested for arson.

According to reports, the duo who allegedly burnt part of Ernest Hotel, Ikeja where they had lodged on 4th July. The police had to intervene as the two estranged lovers engaged in a fist fight after police removed their handcuffs at the Ebute-Meta Magistrate Court on Wednesday where they were arraigned.

Soldiers Finally Arrest Suspected Associates of Tompolo


Soldiers have taken a step closer to the arrest of the highly elusive ex militant leader and suspected brain behind the Niger Delta Avengers group, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo yesterday.

According to the Vanguard, the military nabbed some reported close associates of the fugitive yesterday in Warri, Delta State. A dependable source said that two of them, including a member of Delta Waterways and Land Security Committee, DWLSC and ex-councilor were arrested by soldiers Tuesday morning. Many others were said to be on the run.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has detained the Resident Electoral Commissioner of Abia State, Mr. Sylvester Ezeani, for his alleged role in the N23bn ($115m) that was disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.
According to the EFCC, the suspect allegedly received N20m out of N241m while he was the REC in Cross River State during the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Teenagers attack school, beat principal, steal N1.5m


Pandemonium broke out at the Lagooz Schools on Omotoye Estate in the Orile Agege area of Lagos State after some hoodlums invaded the school premises.
PUNCH Metro learnt that some Hausa teenagers, numbering about 100, stormed the school with machetes and other weapons.
They were said to have attacked the school’s principal and a teacher, identified as Uncle John, during a free-for-all which lasted for about two hours.
Our correspondent was told that the rampaging youths, aside damaging some property of the school, allegedly made away with N1.5m.

Married Man Rapes Housemaid for 19 Days at Knife point

According to Chronicle, Rudolph Chipare (30) allegedly raped the 20-year-old maid at knife point after his wife left for work. Information gathered revealed that the alleged r*pe began on June 8 and ended when the woman gathered strength and notified her cousin who reported the matter to the police. 

When he was arrested, a medical examination was conducted and it revealed that the woman was pregnant. Chipare is remanded in custody and will appear before regional magistrate Mr Mark Dzira facing 19 counts of rape on August 11. Prosecutor Mr Tinashe Dzipe alleged that on June 8 at around 6PM, Chipare ordered the woman to accompany him to a “new house” so she could clean it.

OPC Comes For Niger Delta militants


OPC issued the threat while reacting to recent attacks by suspected militants on Imusin and Ogijo in Ogun and some riverine communities in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The group in a statement by Comrade Dare Adesope entitled, ‘‘Incursion of Ijaw militants into Yoruba land: Enough is enough,’’ threatened reprisal attack if the suspected Ijaw militants failed to end the incursion into the South-West at the end of the ultimatum.
According to the group, the attack in the South-West was an affront on the Yoruba nation and it would not be accepted.

Former footballer jailed for 15 years after turning to armed robbery


Nathan Ashton, 29, who played Premiership football on the wing for Fulham before moving to Crystal Palace and Charlton targeted betting shops across London and the South East.

Along with former Scottish Premier League player Ohmar Pike, the pair netted nearly £15,000 from eight raids.

In one raid, a cashier “fell to his knees and had a panic attack and begged for his life”, a court heard.

Akachukwu Mba Akachukwu who was paraded by the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Besan Gwana, in Aba, was nabbed by the Police while pretending to be a lawyer to effect the release of a suspect.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday detained the Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sylvester Ezeani, for allegedly collecting N20 million cash gift from former Minister of Petroleum resources, Dieziani Alison Madueke.

EFCC operatives believe the money was handed over to Ezeani while he was the resident Officer in Cross Rivers state to influence the outcome of the 2015 Presidential election in favour of PDP.

A former Facebook employee has been officially charged with raping a female friend, who says he held her at knifepoint after a night out with friends.

Yue Zhou, 27, was charged this week on felony rape and battery charges in connection to the June 24 attack. He is due in court for an arraignment on September 6.
