One lesbian couple has fallen pregnant at the same time – and it is quite literally a dream come true for their family.
Toby Fleischman and her wife Lindsey Lanciault recently took to Instagram to reveal the big news.
While one held a sign saying: ‘It’s a boy’, the other held up a similar sign saying: ‘It’s also a boy’, as their dog wore a sign that says: ‘Big Sister’.
While both babies are due this summer, Toby and Lanciault fell pregnant just three weeks apart from each other.
And they couldn’t be more excited about it.
In her Instagram post, Toby wrote: ‘Everyone always says they want to get pregnant with their best friend and I just happened to be lucky enough to be married to mine. Our ‘twin’ boys will be joining us this summer and we couldn’t be more elated!’
While the couple is ecstatic about their news, it hasn’t been an easy ride.
The expecting mothers told PopSugar that Toby, the older of the two, had been planning on getting pregnant first because her ‘window to conceive’ was smaller.
Sadly, after falling pregnant, she miscarried – and after the devastating news, the couple were told that other complications had occurred, forcing the pair to find a new sperm donor.
Eventually, after no luck with Toby conceiving, they decided perhaps it was time to see if Lindsey would be able to fall pregnant. Of course, this had some adverse effects on the relationship due to jealousy throughout the process, which Toby really struggled with.
‘I wish more women had spoken openly to me about it before and during our process. It wasn’t until I started sharing the details with some friends that I learned I wasn’t alone,’ Toby told Babble.
Eventually, with the help of fertility experts, the couple fell pregnant – though they were surprised to find it was actually Toby who was going to be giving birth – after falling pregnant in November 2016 after two years of trying.
The pair were shocked to learn they were to become mums – their jaws dropped even further after finding they’d be mothers to two children – as three weeks later Lindsey also came back with a positive pregnancy test.
Incredibly, both babies will be related by blood – Toby and Lindsey used the same sperm donor.
Both Lindsey and Toby are currently enjoying pregnancy – though they admit they have been living in a household of hormones.
They’ve also both experienced similar stages of pregnancy, with Lindsey’s morning sickness starting right after Toby’s had ended – although while Toby has been a lot hungrier, Lindsey is finding it easier to avoid certain foods.
The duo often bond over pasta and fried food – admitting them to be their biggest cravings.
Alongside sharing their magical story with the world, both Toby and Lindsey are also using it to send a message – especially those who think it’s okay to ask women of childbearing years whether they will be ‘trying soon’.
Lindsey said: ‘You don’t know if they actually have been trying. You don’t know what their situation is. We’ve gotten that ‘When are you going to start?’ question and it’s like . . . we’ve been trying for six months.
‘You don’t know what somebody’s going through.’
