Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Mr. Ekpo Nta, yesterday, told a bewildered House of Representatives Committee on Anti-Corruption, National Ethics and Values, how the commission accosted a junior officer, names withheld, with the Pension Commission operating 50 bank accounts with different names and signatures, with several millions lodged in the accounts.
Nta made the disclosure when he appeared to defend the 2014 budget and the 2013 budget performance before the Committee, chaired by Mr. Abiodun Faleke.
Also, yesterday, Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, told the House Committee on Works that the Ministry was not at war with Rivers State government over allocation of roads.
He also revealed that an agency of the Federal Government was discovered to have put N4billion, being the personnel cost of the agency for the year, in a fixed deposit account and that the head of the agency was being investigated.
Nta said 62 houses and plots of lands were seized from an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,NCSDC , who defrauded members of the public for non-existing housing scheme.
Chairman of the Committee, Abiodun Faleke, in his response, declared that the commission should expedite action in charging government officials found guilty of corrupt practices so as to serve as a deterrent to others, and to sanitise the system.
