The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army has arrested a 72-year-old man for operating four gun factories in Suleja Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Public Relations Officer of the Brigade, Capt. Charles Ekeocha, told journalists on Tuesday in Suleja, Niger State that three of the factories were in the Federal Capital Territory while one was located in Suleja.
He said while initial investigations revealed that three of the factories were in Gwagwalada and Bwari local areas of the FCT, the Suleja factory was discovered during a cordon and search operation in Paiko and Kache in Niger State.
Ekeocha said that the illegal gun dealer would be handed over to the State Security Service for further interrogation and prosecution.
According to him, the military recovered 44 dane guns, three pistols, several tools for the fabrication of guns and other weapons from the man.
He said, “Initial preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect still have three more local guns factories located within Gwagwalada and Bwari areas of FCT.
“The septuagenarian and exhibits will be handed over to the Department of State Security for further investigation and prosecution.”
The 72 year old man who spoke through an interpreter said that he had been doing the business for 45 years.
The suspect said that his products were sold mostly to hunters and members of vigilance groups at a cost of between N3,000 to N5,000.
He promised never to go back to the business if he was released saying he sold his product to anybody in need of them.
He stated that he had an expired license for the operation of the factories.
“I sell my guns to anybody who comes around.
“If I get out of this, I will not go back to the business,” the suspect said.
