Hilton chef faces 5-year jail for stealing milk

The police on Monday arraigned a former Chef of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, 26-year-old Wenike Wisdom, in a Senior Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2, for stealing seven packets of milk.

Wisdom, who is charged with three counts of criminal trespass, impersonation and theft, is also being tried for allegedly stealing oil and some eggs.
The prosecutor, Emmanuel Adikwu, told the court that Mr Daniel Mensuk of Transcorp Hilton, Maitama, Abuja, lodged a report at the Maitama Police Station.
He said that when Mensuk and his team were on patrol in the hotel, they caught the accused trespassing into the Night Club, wearing an apron, pretending to be members of staff.
Adikwe alleged that the accused entered the “Fulani bar” and stole seven packets of milk, three Tuna Chucks, three Kiwi fruits, an undisclosed quantity of ostrich oil and some eggs.
He said the accused ran away immediately they sighted those on patrol but he was later arrested by the police.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 348, 132 and 287 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, the accused is liable to five years in prison or a fine.
The accused pleaded not guilty while the Magistrate, Mr Aminu Eri, admitted him to bail for N50,000 with two sureties.
The judge ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 12 or above. The second surety must have a means of livelihood and be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until April 29 for further hearing.
