Terry must halve his wages to stay

 

John Terry has been offered a one-year deal by Chelsea but must halve his wages if he wants to stay at the club, according to the Daily Mirror.

Terry, who currently earns £150,000-a-week, will be out of contract at the end of the season, but the 33-year-old will have a huge decision to make if he wishes to remain at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea are reportedly offering £75,000-a-week to their captain to play for another 12 months.

Terry has been one of the standout players for Chelsea this season, returning to the first team after not being favoured by manager Rafael Benitez during the second half of the previous campaign.

Turkish champions Galatasaray have been strongly linked with a move for Terry, and the Daily Mirror also reports other Premier League clubs could make an offer for the former England international.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho stated at the beginning of April that he wanted Terry to stay, saying: "The manager wants him to stay; the club know I want him to stay, the club want him to stay, he wants to stay, so normally he is staying."

But with Chelsea sticking to their policy of offering players aged over 30 one-year deals on reduced wages, Terry may be forced to end his time at the club he has represented since he was a teenager should he decide not to take a pay-cut.
