Manchester United could be set to lose Robin van Persie for a crucial period in their season after the striker was reportedly ruled out for a month with an ankle injury.
The Netherlands international hurt himself in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea City, and the centre-forward left the Liberty Stadium on crutches.
Van Persie is expected to miss four weeks of action, according to the Daily Mail, and Louis van Gaal is likely to confirm the extent of the injury in his Friday press conference.
The 31-year-old has had his right foot in a protective boot over the last few days, and had a scan on the injury earlier this week.
The absence will see Van Persie miss a potentially season-defining few weeks for United’s pursuit of a top-four finish, with the striker likely to miss games against top-four rivals Tottenham and Liverpool on March 4 and 15 respectively, while the Dutchman will also miss the visit to Newcastle.
