Bloody day as robbers kill bank manager, seven others in Owo

Gunmen

It was a bloody day in ancient town of Owo kingdom, the headquarters of Owo local government area of Ondo State as robbers attacked four banks for hours this evening.
Numbering about seven, it was learnt that the bandits allegedly killed the manager of one of the banks, including seven others, while several were injured.
Sources alleged that when the robbers began their operation in the community, all the police at the various check points in the community disappeared.

Although the identities of the deceased bank officials could not be ascertained, it was gathered that the two officials failed to “co-operate” with the robbers when they stormed their bank.
Eyewitnesses said one of the banks that the robbers used dynamite to break was still burning as at the time of filing this report.
The armed robbers, according to findings, stormed the town at about 4.00pm and shot sporadically into the air before they robbed three branches of new generation banks in the town.
Findings also revealed that the armed robbers carted away an undisclosed amount of money in all the banks they robbed and rendered many staff of the banks injured.
It was also gathered from unconfirmed sources that some residents of the town were shot dead, while others sustained serious injuries.
The incident however caused pandemonium in the town as many residents of the town who read political meanings to the incident protested round the town after the incident.
A source alleged that the Police officers who witnessed the robbery incident did not challenge the armed robbers while the operation lasted.
A Resident of the town who spoke with DAILY POST on condition of anonymity hinted that the armed robbers entered the town through Owo-Abuja express road and moved straight to the heart of the town where major commercial banks are located.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state Police command, Mr Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, said men of the state Police command had been deployed to the town to enforce orderliness.
He said “details of the incident are still sketchy. I can only give you details of the robbery incident when our men deployed to the town communicate with me”.
