A 27 year old man Monday Michael who raped his neighbour at Gwagwa and threatened to kill her has been sentenced by an Abuja Upper Area Court in Jiwa, to four years imprisonment.
The suspect was arraigned by the Gwagwa Police Division on a five count charge of criminal trespass, house breaking, theft, rape and criminal intimidation contrary to Sections 342, 347, 288, 282, and 396 of the Penal Code.
According to the prosecutor, Lawrence Alu, while testifying before the court said the suspect who resides in Gwagwa police barracks was on March 19 reported at the police division.
The prosecutor further noted that Micheal at about 1am sneaked into a lady’s room and grabbed her by the neck and took her to an uncompleted building where he raped her
Alu said “You equally stole her Techno handset and her N4, 200. During police investigation, the phone was recovered in your possession and while you were being taken to the police station, you intimidated her that if you come out of the police cell, you would kill her.’’
Micheal however pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Judge, Muhammad Lawal Munir consequently sentenced him to two years imprisonment with an option of N30, 000 fine.
