Speaking on Argentine radio today, Boca Juniors striker Carlos Tevez confirmed he received a phone call from Antonio Conte asking him if he wants to sign for Chelsea.
The 32-year-old former Premier League star was on the losing side in the Copa Libertadores final earlier in July, as Boca were beaten 5-3 on aggregate by Independiente del Valle.
Carlos Tevez has made it pretty clear that he wants to retire at Boca Juniors and told Radio La Red that he rejected Antonio Conte’s offer.
“The day after we lost (the final) Antonio Conte called me and asked if I wanted to come to Chelsea. I told him no.”
Tevez also said that he would like to become president of Boca Juniors one day.
Conte wants reunion with Tevez
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wanted to reunite with the Argentine striker after the pair spent an incredibly successful spell at Juventus together.
Carlos Tevez would bring grit and Premier League experience to Chelsea’s attack but the veteran striker has no intention of returning to Europe.
He played for West Ham United, Manchester United and Manchester City in England.
