Police dismiss sergeant who murdered 16-year-old in Imo

The police Sergeant, Wilson Ufere, who killed 16-year-old Obinna Iwuoha, on Thursday on the Anara-Umuahia expressway in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State have been expelled from the Nigeria Police Force.
Ufere, had at about 5:30 pm at ‘Ugwu Omiri Lawyer’, while on a road duty with two other colleagues, opened fire directly at a close range on a group of youths, mostly teenagers who were on a church procession.
16-year-old Obinna, who was a secondary school one student, died instantly, while three others, Tochukwu Uzoukwu, 25, Chukwuebuka Donatus, 24, and Chigozie Iwuala, 28, were battered by bullets leading to their coma for days.
Speaking on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the police in the state, Andrew Enwerem, said that the trigger-happy policeman had been found culpable and immediately dismissed from the force.
Enwerem, said that after orderly room trial of Ufere and his colleagues who took part in the dastardly act, it was discovered that he was guilty and subsequently expelled as a police officer.
The Police spokesperson stated that the police would charge Ufere to the court of law for murder immediately.
Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, averred that the two other police officers who were with Ufere during the shooting spree were not found guilty of murder but would be punished internally according to the police force regulations.
He said, “The police officer has been dismissed from the force. He was found guilty of murder. He is no longer a police officer.
“We are going to arraign him in court for murder immediately. The other officers were not dismissed but will be punished internally according to the police regulations.”
