Soldiers invade school because teacher punished one of their girlfriends

Students and teachers of Hilltop Model Secondary School in Minna, Niger State, were yesterday, February 24, 2015, thrown into panic as they scampered for their safety as some some soldiers of the Nigeria Army led by a senior officer, from the 31 Artillery Brigade in the state, unleashed havoc in the school because a teacher punished his girlfriend.

According to reports, the soldiers invaded the school in a commando fashion, fully armed with assault riffles, during the morning assembly and held the teachers and students hostage, asking for the teacher who had the effrontery to punish and officer's lover. The report added that the soldiers disrupted academic activities for the day before whisking  the female student who was punished, away.

Military men dehumanize 'Keke' rider over N250 bribe

Some soldiers attached to the OP MESA, a military security outfit in Lagos, allegedly took the laws into their hands when they descended on a 57-year-old tricycle (popularly called 'Keke Marwa', ) rider, Sunday Akomolafe, at the Ahmadiyya park, when the man, a member of the Nigerian Legion, refused to give them a bribe of N250.

New Telegraph reports that the victim lamented that the soldiers in an OP MESA van with Air Force 07 written on it, came to their park and insisted he should, ‘give them their dues’.

Nigeria reportedly paying N146m monthly to Chadian and Nigerien soldiers

Nigeria’s war against the Boko Haram insurgency may be taking its toll on the finances of the nation, as the Federal Government is reported to be bearing the financial burden of the involvement of soldiers from Niger Republic and Chad.

According to a Punch report, the troops from Chad and Niger receive a whooping N146.25m monthly as pocket and feeding allowances from the Federal Government.
This figure, the report said was different from what is paid by Nigeria for fueling of the operational vehicles of the foreign troops and other logistics.

Army Officer Shot Dead By Brother For Taking New Wife

A warrant officer with the Nigeria Army, 50-year-old Joseph Ekpenyong Okon has been shot dead by his elder brother. The suspect was said to have taken the action as a way of protesting against the de­ceased’s decision to marry a new wife.

This has led operatives of the De­partment of Criminal Investigation, Rivers State Police Command to ar­rest the 60-year-old suspect, Okon Ekpenyong Okon who is now helping with investigations into the incident. The victim and suspect are from Ono Ito Odukpani area of Akwa Ibom State.

Four Soldiers Die As Troops Uncover Yobe Bomb Factory

Four soldiers died in the course of the operation to clear terrorists from Buni-Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State as troops, on cordon and search, uncovered a bomb-making factory, where the improvised explosives devices, used by terrorists, are being produced.

The soldiers were reportedly killed by explosions while clearing the IEDs, which the terror group, Boko Haram, had deployed in different parts of the town.

roops of the 33 Brigade have concluded the dislodgement and clearing of Boko Haram terrorists from Lame/Burra forest, which traverse Ningi and Torro Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.

A statement yesterday by army spokesman Colonel Sani Usman said: “During the operation which started since last weekend, quite a number of terrorists were killed, their weapons and equipment destroyed. Similarly, a sizeable number of arms, ammunitions, foodstuffs, Hilux vehicles, motorcycles and Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) were recovered by the troops. 

Suspected Boko Haram member escapes arrest

The suspect was believed to be on a surveillance mission for the insurgents but pretended to be insane. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Gujba and Gulani Local Government areas in Yobe were captured by the insurgents in July 2014 and remained under their control for nine months.

Maiduguri mutiny: 12 soldiers get death sentence

Twelve Nigerian soldiers have been sentenced to death by the military authorities.

The condemned soldiers include: Cpl. Jasper Braidolor, David Musa, Friday Onu, Yusuf Shuaibu, Emmanuel Igomu, Andrew Ngbede, Nurudeen Ahmed, Ifeanyi Alukhagbe, Alao Samuel, Amadi Chukwudi, Alan Linus and Stephen Clement.

However, Jeremiah Ichocho, who was found guilty of Absence Without Official Leave (AWOL) was sentenced to two years without labour.

Former President Obasanjo's Son Shot In Mubi By Boko Haram

Boko Haram militants attacked a platoon led by the son of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, shooting him today. He sustained serious injuries to his legs and was being transported to the hospital at the time of this report.

Adeboye Obasanjo, an army engineer, was a Lieutenant Colonel at the 3rd Division in Jos, Plateau State.
 

Lagos APC Youth Leader Condemns Carnage By Nigerian Army In Lagos

The Lagos APC Youth leader Mr. Omotayo Sanyaolu, has strongly condemned the Friday morning carnage perpetuated by men of the Nigerian Army on Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

A terse statement from the office of the APC’s Youth Leader reads, “The destruction of state-owned property by men and women, who ought to be prepared to die while safeguarding our collective existence,  is incomprehensible. This has again raised salient questions begging to be answered; who is the Nigerian's military serving? Do they represent the interest of the Nigeria people or a certain section? Is the Nigerian Army serving the interest of those who are bent on ‘capturing’ Lagos come 2015?”

Nigeria army 'knows where Boko Haram are holding girls'

 

The Nigerian military say they know where the girls kidnapped by Boko Haram are but they will not attempt a rescue.

Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff said it was "good news for the parents," although he admitted the military would not risk "going there with force."

Boko Haram: Fighter Jets Raid Bauchi Forests

Security sources and residents of nearby villages in Bauchi said that, fighter jets have begun conducting raids on camps set up by suspected Boko Haram militants in forests.

Residents of Ganjuwa and Darazo local government areas said they had sighted military aircraft heading towards the forests and heard sounds of bombings in the early hours of yesterday.

Nigerian Army Begins recruitment of Volunteer Army Personnel

According to a report by Channels TV, the Nigerian army has announced the recruitment of volunteer soldiers that will serve in the search for the missing Chibok girls as well as help in the fight against Boko Haram insurgence.

In a press briefing today, the Director of Public Affairs said the recruitment exercise is open to only able bodied persons.
