Arsenal are expecting to finally sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling in January with talks over a £10million deal reportedly set to begin soon.
The Gunners almost got Smalling before he went to United in 2010 and tried again to bring him in during the summer transfer window.
A deal could not be agreed then, but now new reports say the transfer could finally happen in the new year with United ready to let the player move to the Emirates Stadium.
It’s claimed that Arsenal are set to offer £10million for the 24-year-old and expect it will be enough to do business, with Louis van Gaal happy to move him on.
Arsene Wenger has made no secret of the fact that Arsenal are short on defensive bodies, and Smalling’s ability to play centre back, right back or as a defensive midfielder make him an attractive proposition.
