Manchester United are reportedly keen on making a move to bring Gerard Pique back to Old Trafford from Barcelona.
The defender left United in 2008 for just £5m and has been a key performer for the Catalan club ever since, helping them to four league titles, two Champions League victories and two Copa del Reys.
But the Spanish international has made just three appearances so far this campaign, with new boss Luis Enrique seemingly favouring Javier Mascherano and Jeremy Mathieu at the back.
And according to Spanish newspaper AS, Manchester United hope to take advantage of the situation by offering Pique a return to Old Trafford, despite the 27-year-old having only just signed a new deal with Barca.
Boss Louis van Gaal desperately needs to bolster his defence in January, with his side having taken just five points from their opening five Premier League matches and already having crashed out of the Capital One Cup to MK Dons.
