Confirmed: Ibrahimovic Released By Manchester United

The Premier League have confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been released by Manchester United.

The Swedish striker suffered a cruciate ligament injury in United's Europa League quarter-final win over Anderlecht in April and missed the final 10 matches of the season.

Goal reported on Thursday that Ibrahimovic was set to be let go by Jose Mourinho's side, despite an impressive 28-goal campaign following his move from PSG last summer.

United had the option to extend the 35-year-old's contract by an extra year, although the knee injury, which forced him to miss the Europa League final win over former club Ajax, has ultimately made up the club's mind.

Despite having undergone successful surgery, it is expected to take moths before Ibrahimovic will be in a position to return to action.
Mourinho has subsequently decided against waiting for the veteran attacker to recover, with the club looking for a replacement in the summer transfer window.

Morata offers the quality Man Utd need most

As exclusively revealed by Goal earlier on Friday, Alvaro Morata could join the Red Devils, with Chelsea having cooled their interest to focus their attentions on signing Romelu Lukaku.

The 24-year-old is willing to leave Real Madrid after failing to cement a regular place in the starting XI at the Bernabeu with United and AC Milan now battling it out for his signature.

As for Ibrahimovic, his agent Mino Raiola has suggested that the Swede is keen to remain in the Premier League, opening the door to the former Barcelona man joining one of United's rivals.
