Iwobi was introduced as a substitute with Nigeria tied 0-0 with Zambia, in a game where they need a win to gain an unassailable lead in the race to be at the World Cup in Russia.
He ended up as the match winner for Nigeria when he slide home a cross from Shehu Abdullahi into the net of Zambia with a little over sixteen minutes left to play in the game.
Speaking after the game, the former England youth international said the feeling of scoring the goal that qualified Nigeria for the World Cup is the best he has ever had.
“My goal against Zambia is one of the greatest feeling I ever had. We just need to stay focused and keep the strong mentality going as a team”, Iwobi said.
Speaking further, the forward who was instrumental in Ola Aina’s switch of allegiance from England, where he was a youth international to Nigeria said he was pleased for him after his debut.
“It was great to see him make his debut for Nigeria, hopefully he could be an asset to the team”, he concluded.
