Why I’m fighting Obiano – Peter Obi

Former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi has confirmed that he has problems with his successor, Chief Willie Obiano and has good reasons to fight him.

Obi said his problem with Obiano was owing to his non-performance as a governor.
The former governor who accompanied the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate of the Anambra governorship election, Mr Oseloka Obaze to a rally organized by the women’s wing of the party at the state party secretariat said he was fighting Obiano because of a vow he made to Anambra people in 2013.

He said, “In 2013, I took Obiano around Anambra State, to the markets, to every part of the state and the people kept asking me if I was sure of him as they did not know him, but would vote him because of me.

“I told them I would be the one to lead a campaign against Obiano if he does not perform well in his first term. Today, can anyone show me what the governor has done within his first term? He has nothing to show for it.”

Obi said winning second term was usually an easy task for any performing governor as all that was needed was for the governor to point at his achievements in the first term and now tell the people what he would do in the second term and the people would vote for him.
“When I was working for my second term, each community I went to, I usually showed them what I had achieved, and that made it possible for the people to vote for me because they have seen what I can do.

“We challenge Obiano to show us what he has done in his first term. Go to all parts of the state where all of you came from, can you mention the things he has done? He has done nothing. That if why I am here to lead the campaign for his removal,” Obi said.

He charged the party to work hard for the enthronement of good leadership, saying that PDP has selected a credible candidate in Oseloka Obaze to succeed Obiano.

Obi expressed happiness that PDP in the state was now a united party, unlike before, when he(Obi) rode on the disunity in the party to win the state governorship election of the party twice.

“Anambra has always been a PDP state, and our entry has further popularied the party in the state. Go to the markets, everywhere, all that the people are saying is PDP. I was one of those who benefited from the party’s disunity, but today we are one,” Obi said.

The Party’s candidate, Mr Obaze while addressing the women said that in choosing a women, Barr Chidi Onyemelukwe as his running mate, he has demonstrated where he intends to place women in his government.

He assured that political appointments in his administration would be on a 60-40 basis, with women taking 40 percent of the appointments in his government.

The women who thronged the state party secretariat from all parts of the state took turns to speak glowingly of Obaze and his running mate, Onyemelukwe.
