Millionaire Buys The World’s Most Expensive Whisky Only To Discover It’s Fake

A millionaire has been given his money back after buying the world’s most expensive whiskey for £7,600 after it proved to be a fake. According to reports, the Chinese millionaire named Zhang Wei, thought he was buying the only bottle of Macallan 1878 Scotch still in circulation at a Swiss hotel.

The whiskey was put through specialist lab tests after experts raised doubts about its authenticity. The Dunfermline-based Rare Whisky 101 was discovered to be was a modern blend, probably distilled no earlier than 1970.

The drink would have had a bar value of about £227,000, had it been genuine, according to reports.

But it proved to be a “virtually worthless” as a collector’s item.

Hotel manager Sandro Bernasconi has flown to Asia in the past week to give Wei his money back.
