Two schoolgirls,13 and 14 badly stabbed during fight over boyfriend

Two schoolgirls have been badly stabbed during a clash between young pupils from rival schools on a playing field in Reading.

The victims, aged just 13 and 14, suffered multiple knife wounds to the stomach, shoulder and leg during the brutal melee that was filmed by other schoolchildren on their phones.

The two girls were tonight detained in hospital, where their stab wounds were described as 'serious.'

A third girl, aged 15, was arrested later by police and taken to a police station to be questioned.

According to Daily Mail, the pupils, from rival schools in Reading, are understood to have arranged a confrontation on a playing field near the Rivermead Leisure Centre, which is beside the River Thames.
But it turned into a blood-spattered brawl as the young girls began exchanging blows.

Eye-witnesses, who did not want to be named, said the fight erupted during a row over a boy and footage filmed by other schoolchildren showed the girls viciously punching each other before one of them pulls out a knife and stabs the 13-year-old in the stomach.

Adults at the nearby leisure centre dialled 999 for the police and ambulance service and paramedics raced to the scene to treat the girls.

One, believed to be aged 14, could be seen in video footage with a huge bloody patch on her tracksuit bottoms from a stab wound to her thigh.

The stabbed girls were understood to be Year 9 pupils at schools in Reading.
