Dapchi Had No Military Presence – Military Replies Yobe Governor

Defence authorities have debunked claims by Yobe Governor, Ibrahim Geidam that the military withdrew troops from Dapchi barely a week to an attack on Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, leading to the kidnap of 110 girls.

Geidam had made the when his Borno State counterpart, Kashim Shettima paid him a visit on Saturday.

He said, “I blame the whole attack on Dapchi on the military and the defence headquarters who withdrew troops from Dapchi. The attack occurred barely a week after the military withdrew the soldiers from there.”

But Premium Times quoted Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.Gen. John Agim, as saying that Dapchi had no military presence at all prior to the attack.

Agim reportedly said on Sunday night that the closest military formation was 30 kilometres away, but declined to mention the location of the troops.

He added that the governor and other Nigerians should know that the military lacks the capacity to protect all the schools in the region.
