Father, brother and uncle of 16-year-old girl arrested for ‘repeatedly raping her’

A 16-year-old Indian girl has accused her father, uncle and brother of repeatedly raping her over a period of two years, local police have said on Saturday.

The teenager, from Dhupguri, West Bengal state, fell pregnant twice by one or two of her male family members, and was forced to undergo abortions on both occasions.

After keeping silent for two years, the teenager told a school teacher who helped her report the abuse to the police and the three men were arrested on Friday.  

'Her father, a farmer aged around 50, allegedly raped her several times. She alleged that her uncle also raped her and of late her brother had also started,' police spokesman K.L. Sherpa in Jalpaiguri district said.

During the rape, the men also inserted candles and bottles into the woman's private part.

A father in India has been arrested after he took his eight-year-old daughter to school roped to his motorcycle.

BBC reports that, the 40-year-old was arrested after local newspapers in Uttar Pradesh state published photos taken by passers-by. He has now been freed on bail.Onlookers accuse the man of cruelty  but he says his daughter had an exam and was reluctant to go to school.

Sisters gang raped by police in India and left to hang

A group of men, including at least two police officers, raped two teenage sisters and strung their bodies from a mango tree, Indian officials confirmed.

Four of the alleged culprits have been arrested – but police are still searching for three others.

The twins were born last month in a tiny government-run hospital in their village but soon rushed to JK Lone Hospital, in Jaipur, in the northern state of Rajasthan, for further tests.
