A security guard, Mikemon Solomon, who allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl, on Wednesday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Solomon, who lives on Midou Road, Mile 12, is facing a one-count charge of defiling a child, an offence which attracts life imprisonment, if found guilty.

5 killed as Hausa, Yoruba clash in Ile-Ife


Five people are feared killed in an inter-ethnic clash at the Sabo area of Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Eyewitness account says the crisis started on Tuesday night when a rift broke out between a Hausa man and a Yoruba woman.
The violence, however, continued Wednesday morning.

An Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Wednesday remanded four men in prison over an alleged theft of a Skybite 100 Arms vehicle battery belonging to the state Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi.
 
The accused – Dare Akinlade, 19; Pius Macauley, 22; Samuel Baniah, 22 and Segun Ilesanmi, 25, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, felony and stealing.

Controversy As Cross Rivers Govt Demotes 11 Teachers to Security Guards


A total of eleven primary school teachers in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, were on Tuesday demoted to security personnel, by the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), for failure to present the requisite qualification to work as class teachers before the board.
 
According to The Leadership, the demotion which was announced by the board’s chairman, Dr. Steven Odey, was sequel to the ongoing teachers verification and promotion exercise in the state by SUBEB.

Adichie stated that her aim for feminism drive was to ensure that marriages change for good, and that women are treated same as “someone who has penis.”

The British High Commission in Abuja has debunked a report by The Guardian UK which reported at the weekend that the government of President Goodluck Jonathan rejected the offer by the British Royal Armed Force (RAF) to help rescue over 200 Chibok schoolgirls, when they were kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014.

According to The Nation, the British High Commission on Tuesday said the allegation that the RAF was over the area for a number of months and actually located the girls within weeks, but the Nigerian government under former President Jonathan turned down its offer to rescue the girls, “was false”.

Military Officers Arrest Fleeing Housemaid Who Absconded With Boss’ Car In Lagos


Punch reports that a house help, Helen Wilson, has been arrested for allegedly stealing her boss’ Toyota Camry and looting her property in the Victoria Island area of Lagos State. The suspect was tracked on Tuesday to a location in Benue State through her Facebook post, where she was apprehended by some military officers alerted by her boss, Aisha Bulama.

It was learnt that the  Adamawa State indigene had been working for Bulama for the past five years at her house in Block C6, 1004 Estate, where the incident happened. The boss was said to have travelled to Kaduna State for a wedding last week when Wilson, together with her boyfriend, one Martins, drove the 2009 model car away. A neighbour, who noticed that the car was not in the usual parking lot, alerted Bulama that her car had been stolen.
