Tottenham hope to name Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager in the coming days after holding advanced talks with the Southampton chief.
Pochettino, who has been a front runner in the race to replace the sacked Tim Sherwood, had looked set to stay at St Mary’s last week and sign a new contract.
But in a dramatic twist, Tottenham have been given permission to speak to the Argentine, and now expect to name him as their next coach.
According to PA, Pochettino has held advanced negotiations over signing a four-year contract with Spurs, while chairman Daniel Levy is trying to agree a compensation figure with Southampton.
The move comes after senior Spurs officials said they expected to have found a new manager before the end of the May, with Frank de Boer seen as the backup option if Pochettino was not available.
However, it now looks increasingly likely that he could take up the role at White Hart Lane, with Levy set to land his preferred choice.
