Four members of a robbery gang who were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command have said they usually prayed to God before any operation.

One of the suspected robbers, Mutalubi Abdullahi, explained that the prayer was to ensure that only ‘sinners’ would be dealt with by the gang, while the ‘innocent’ would be spared.

Abdullahi, who was arrested along with Ismaila Moruf, Opeyemi Akinyemi and Sarah Emmanuel, were arrested by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command, for robbing early morning pedestrians and motorists in the Mile 2 area of the state.

Sri Lanka rape doctor has been sentenced to death

A Sri Lankan doctor who raped and murdered a patient at a Hospital near Colombo has been given the death penalty.

Dr Indika Sudharsana Balage was found guilty for the killing a young woman who was a garment factory worker at a hospital in Negombo in 2007.

Dr Balage was convicted for strangling the 23-year-old girl before throwing her body through the window from a sixth floor.

Hundreds of convicts are on death row in Sri Lanka but the coutry's last execution was in 1976.

Report has it that Balage’s victim, Chamila Dissanayake, was at the hospital following an operation.

CBN to print electoral materials for 2015 elections

CHAIRMAN, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, on Wednesday, said the commission would explore ways to collaborate with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on the printing of electoral materials for the elections.
This came contrary to rumours doing the round that INEC would print electoral materials for the election abroad.

One of death-row's longest serving inmates has been freed after 30 years in prison, thanks to new DNA evidence proving he did not commit the rape and murder he was jailed for.

Henry McCollum and his half-brother Leon Brown were just teenagers when they were convicted of the 1983 rape and killing of 11-year-old Sabrina Buie is North Carolina.

Mr McCollum is the US state's longest serving death-row prisoner, while Mr Brown's sentence was reduced to life in prison for rape after a second trial.

UK Deputy High Commissioner Slumps, Dies at Lagos Airport

THE Deputy British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Carter Leslie, has reportedly died of a heart attack following his collapse as the Muritala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos.

Leslie was reported to have fallen and slumped while arriving Nigeria on onboard a Delta Airlines from Atlanta Georgia.

The incident temporarily caused uproar at the airport as many feared that he may have died of the Ebola Virus disease presently ravaging the country.

He was later confirmed to have died of heart attack.

His body was taken to an undisclosed hospital where he was officially declared death.

Kaduna records first suspected case of Ebola

A 19- year old student of Law at the Ahmadu Bello University is suspected to be down with the deadly Ebola virus in Kaduna. The Public Relations Officer, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, ABUTH, Bilyaminu Umar, while confirming the case on Monday when contacted via phone said the student was diagnosed at ABUTH, Shika, Zaria, and that he showed some symptoms associated with the disease. 

“Yes, there was a case of a suspected Ebola patient. He is with the Faculty of Law, ABU, Zaria and will be placed on isolation. I am out of town, but will confirm details on my return from a trip,” he said. However, experts have said not all patients who manifest some symptoms of the virus end up testing positive to the disease. A definitive test will have to confirm that. Although the ABUTH spokesperson confirmed the development, only the Federal Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the Kaduna state government, can authoritatively confirm if the case is indeed that of Ebola.

Jimi Jamison, the lead singer for US rock band Survivor, who sang the theme tune for hit TV series Baywatch, has died aged 63.

Jamison, who joined the band in 1984 and co-wrote the Baywatch theme I'm Always Here, was described by the band as "our brother".

They said on their Facebook page: "The entire Survivor family is very shocked and saddened.

Atinuke who married Ilorin, Kwara state born  Eniola said trouble started when he noticed that his wife was behaving strangely, and then, seconded her strange attitudes with coming home way too late at nights. His fears were however confirmed were he said he caught his wife with her lover. Atinuke said when he asked his wife about the issue, she was not remorseful but she just packed all her loads and moved to her lover’s place.

UNILAG Chief Security Officer shot dead by gunmen

The Chief Security Officer of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Mr. Sunday Adejumo has been murdered by suspected cultists. The incident took place at a beer parlour on Oyenuga Street, Akoka on Friday evening. Sources say the CSO entered the bar with some new friends to down a couple of bottles of beer. As they sat and drank, some strange men armed with machete and guns came into the bar. 

One of the men, according to witnesses, walked up to Adejumo and hit him in the chest. The suspect then shot him point blank range in the chest. A resident of the area said the police picked up the bar proprietor. He said, “The incident happened around 8.30pm on Friday. We suddenly heard gunshots and we all rushed into our different houses because we did not know what exactly happened. “It was later we learnt that one of those in the beer parlour was killed. “It was not a robbery because they did not steal anything or injure anybody else. Immediately they killed him, they left.”

EFCC Arrests Three Suspected Fraudsters for Attempted Hacking

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a syndicate of scammers for attempting to defraud Enterprise Bank Plc. Ola Lawal, Olumide Kayode and Abass Adekunle were arrested following a botched attempt to compromise the bank’s system and steal depositors’ funds using an electronic device known as Keelog Key Grabber.

The trio’s arrest way made possible by an insider who revealed to the bank’s management that some fraudsters were planning to gain access to its network, using a device called Keelog Key Grabber.

CBN goes ahead with N65 charges on ATM withdrawals despite outcries

Despite the controversies trailing the introduction of N65 charges on Automated Tellers Machine, ATM, by the Central Bank of Nigeria, Commercial banks in Nigeria will commence the operation as from today, September 1.

DailyPost reports that the apex bank had announced a fresh plan to bring back the charges penultimate week.

Explaining why it is introducing the charges, the CBN claimed that the removal of ATM charges was wrong in the first instance, adding that there was no way a bank could recover its costs and improve on profitability with such remaoval.
