Antonio Conte close to agreeing new Chelsea contract

Antonio Conte could be on the verge of signing a new Chelsea contract, according to reports.
The Italian has had a remarkable impact since joining the west London club last summer, taking a team that finished 10th last term to 10 points clear at the summit of the Premier League.

Despite the successful coming together, there have been persistent reports during his short reign that Conte could return to Italy. It’s been suggested the former Juventus manager is homesick while Inter Milan and AC Milan have been linked with approached.
However, all that talk could very soon be put to bed. Sky Sports report that Conte could sign a new deal in ‘a matter of days’.

The 47-year-old’s current contract covers another two seasons after the current one. But if the reports are true it would suggest Chelsea want to keep him on longer and ward off interest from elsewhere in their Italian tactician.

Chelsea face a crucial game against Manchester United on Monday, with a place in the FA Cup semi-finals up for grabs. If Conte were to sign a new deal before then it could provide a timely boost ahead of the quarter-final meeting at Stamford Bridge.
