Lagos Shuts 28 Illegal Hospitals

The Lagos State Government says it has shut down 28 substandard hospitals and 319 illegal pharmacies across the state for not meeting up with the standard set by the government.
The government also disclosed that 9,498 pupils in Lagos public primary schools have visual impairment after tests carried out on them.

An Upper Area Court in Kado, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 43-year-old woman, Janet Moses to five months in prison for beating a two-year-old boy to a state of coma.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced Moses after she pleaded guilty to a one count charge of cruelty to a child.

A law allowing men to marry as many women as they want has been signed into law in Kenya by President Uhuru Kenyatta despite opposition from women’s groups.
The new development in the country was confirmed through a statement by the presidency, which says it ”consolidates various laws relating to marriage”.

NFA dismisses Singaporean’s match-fixing claim


The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed the claim by a Singaporean, Wilson Perumal, that he helped Nigeria qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

A statement from NFF’s Assistant Director (Communications), Ademola Olajire, on Tuesday in Abuja said Perumal’s claim was nothing more than “distinct fiction by a self-confessed and convicted Singaporean match-fixer”.

The woman of Zimbabwe, was accused of allowing her neighbour to rape her daughter in exchange for 22 pounds of sugar.

The woman, 54, even handed the rapist a blanket so he is comfortable while raping her daughter.

On Monday night, Nigerian film-maker and Nollywood icon, Amaka Igwe died in an Enugu hospital. She was 51 years old at the time of her death. She was doing pre-production preparations for a new Igbo soap opera in Enugu when she suffered an asthma attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital. She finally passed on after several interventions to resuscitate her failed.  She was in the company of her husband when she died.

Abducted schoolgirls allegedly married off for N2,000, moved abroad

Most of the 234 Borno schoolgirls in Boko Haram captivity, according to a report on DailyTrust, have allegedly been ferried abroad to Chad and Cameroon after they were married off to sect members on N2,000 bride price each.

The female students were taken from their hostels at the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok on the night of April 14. About 40 had escaped in the days after the incident, but parents and school authorities said at least 234 of them were yet to be found.

N10bn Jet scandal : Court order stalls Reps investigation

The House of Representatives on Monday said a Federal High Court order stalled investigation in the alleged N10 billion spent on chattered aircraft by Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, Minister of Petroleum Resources.

The house on March 27, mandated the Public Accounts Committee to investigate Alison-Madueke use of state funds in the last two years to charter, operate and maintain a jet for her personal use.

Teacher killed after being stabbed in classroom by a 15-year-old pupil




A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a 61-year-old female teacher was stabbed to death at school in Leeds, United Kingdom.

The victim was named locally as Anne Maguire, who is understood to have taught Spanish and Religious Education at Corpus Christi Catholic College, in Neville Road, Leeds.
Ms Maguire was rushed to hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead.
